SBC Dec. 2017 – David Calveley – Chair, Sidney Economic Development Committee

Happy Holidays everyone!

Our speaker this month will be David Calveley, Chair of the Sidney Economic Development Committee. The Sidney EDC has done outstanding work in 2017 generating business & industry metrics for the Town of Sidney area. We will get a brief summary review from David of the survey work & results at our December 14th meeting.

After initially establishing his own business representing a German engineering company, David Calveley opened the Canadian subsidiary for that company in 1984. He moved to the USA in 1987 taking on the added role as president and CEO of that organization. After relocating and restructuring there he expanded the company’s operations into Mexico and later Panama. On returning to Sidney in 2007 David continued as the Canadian CEO and in a regional role as Board Chair for North America and Israel. After retiring in 2012 he is currently a mentor with the Futurpreneur organization working with entrepreneurs on Vancouver Island and for the last year has been Chair of the Town of Sidney Economic Development Commission {EDC].

On December 11, several days before the SBC meeting later that week (December 14th), David will submit a report to the Committee of the Whole of Sidney Council detailing the activities of the EDC in their first two years. At our meeting David will give us a review of that report and highlight some of the successes as well as challenges faced as they completed the initial phase of their work plan focused on the downtown area. He will also tell us something of the Commission’s goals and need for assistance as they take up the next referral from Sidney Council, to market the Sidney Industrial Area as an Innovation Zone.

As always, the meeting is held at 7am on the 2nd Thursday of every month at the Victoria Flying Club Dakota Café.

Please join us on Thursday / December 14th / 7am and RSVP (john@harbourdigitalmedia.com) only if you plan on attending.
